E-bay seems to vary widely. Anyone have a good feel for what these bring?

    TIA....

Only two (single unit) sales I have on file

    728B WE S Mint 4000 2010-03
    728B WE S Exc 3000 2010-04

    Prices are US$.

With anything WE, shipping to Asia will guarantee you a better price.

Pretty fair chance the gap's "green" too.

My buddy pulled the driver. Looks pretty good. I won't have a chance to mess with it in person until next week. You can bet I'll listen to it before it goes anywhere....

Guess $3000-$4000 is pretty standard for these.....

Cone looks good, even with the Blurry picture ! :lollipop:

On the the front gasket there is a date code can you post Alan ? The label does say WE and not Altec so it is an early model ! If you got it for $1200 consider it a STEAL !!

Addendum: As Brad noted the gap maybe green too. From the looks of the outside this driver should be checked thoroughly before driven hard. It's a nice piece of WE History.

Got to listen to and measure this driver. Thanks A-A. It's unusual! Heaviest 12" I've ever lifted, real a beast. Goes right on up to 12K and better. Very low distortion. Warm and clean sound.

Will post pix and measurements ASAP.

    Michael,

I'm all ears.... Thanks for your help. It does make some beautiful music.

It's not the same effect as a set of big VOTT's, but I can imagine in the right enclosure as a set of near field speakers, a pair of these would be sheer magic...

    Some additional pix....

    WE 728b quick measurements.

Here are two graphs. One taken with the raw driver on the chair as seen above, the other in the small sealed box (leaky seal).
    WE FR boxed
    WE FR raw

Normally I don't show such an expanded amplitude scale, but here it was done to show the low distortion of the driver. 3rd harmonic is shown, but the others are in line with this, dropping off naturally from 2nd thru 7th. A very clean driver.

Darn good for a 12" full range! Yes, it beams, but it's a 12" with no whizzer. Notice no bad cone breakup, either. I see F3 as about 53Hz in that box. Don't know the impedance, but DCR is 3 ohms.
We used a mono 6L6 P-P valve amp for all the tests.

One thing A.A. didn't mention is how damn heavy this thing is. A beast!
